Thane City FC’s Under-20 team recently participated in the Youth Championship organised by Sporko in Bandra. In the tournament that just concluded, the boys won a couple and drew three of their eight games. Despite that, they managed to qualify to the upper tier of the playoffs. Led by coach Prathamesh Chavan, the team has impressed on a consistent basis. The coach would be satisfied with the level of performance that they have put right through the overall campaign.
He added, “It is not the best start but I am proud of the boys who showed a lot of commitment throughout the campaign. Some of the matches were disappointing. There were times when we should have got all three points, but we ended up with just one. Despite that, it is a learning curve for everyone involved with the team and we can only get better.”
Prathamesh assisted by Faisal Khan had a great campaign. The latter recently cleared his C-certificate and he added, “The tournament was a great learning and I would like to thank the club to appoint me as one of the coaches. Very proud of the boys for putting in their efforts in training and matches.”
The performance of the team in the tournament was good because of the efforts of all players. Despite that, some of them stood out. Goalkeeper Gaurang Vengurlekar kept a tally of five clean sheets and was pivotal to the team’s success. He made vital saves right through the competition, including a penalty save.
Vedansh Singh got three amazing assists. To add to that, Zidane Fernandes and Mark Melvin Gomes scored a brace each during the campaign.
